A limited collection of just 25 timepieces is designed to infuse the style and elegance of the 1940s with modern chronograph technology. The new Breitling Premier B21 Chronograph Tourbillon 42 Bentley Limited Edition launches this month.

The wristwatch is a fresh take on the original Breitling Premier watches of the 40s. It features a 42 millimeter case wrapped in 18 karat red gold with rectangular chronograph pushers, a gold-brown alligator strap, and a transparent sapphire caseback that reveals the movement of its 22-karat gold oscillating weight.

A release from the company details that the. distinctive green dial, reminiscent of the British racing green, is the highlight of the piece. The Breitling-Bentley partnership has used similar coloring in other endeavors.

The timepiece is powered by the Manufacture Caliber B21. The COSC-certified tourbillon movement offers around 55 hours of power reserve and is water-resistant up to 100 meters.

The partnership between Bentley and Beitling is a few decades old but the passion for the combination of Breitling timepieces and luxury cars goes back much further. Willy Breitling, the grandson of the brand's founder Léon Breitling, was a passionate Bentley driver. He patented the chronograph with two independent pushers at 2 o'clock and 4 o'clock in 1934. In 1940 he designed the original Premier wristwatches, the company's first link that moved them from pure purpose to style. As Willy saw it, "When a man puts on his watch, it is the unmistakeable stamp of impeccable taste."

The watch has a $52,000 starting MSRP.

Late last year, Bentley showed off its branded specialty watches, which were developed in partnership with Jacob the Jeweler. The timepieces from the Jacob & Co. x Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon collection bring together the feeling evoked by the raw power of the Chiron super sports car and the artistry of its design into a timepiece.

Rita Hayworth and her Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 gave good face

Vintage Vehicles

By the time the Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 with coachbuilding by Touring made its debut in the spring of 1949, actress Rita Hayworth was already in her prime. A bona fide screen siren in the Golden Age of cinema, Hayworth spent the '40s starring in a number of well-regarded films including "Down to Earth" (1940), "Tales of Manhattan" (1942), "You'll Never Get Rich" (1941), "Blood and Sand" (1941), "The Lady from Shanghai" (1947), "Cover Girl" (1944), and "Gilda" (1946).

The 6C 2500 Villa d'Este model quickly became regarded as the peak of beauty, just as Hayworth had in the years earlier, gracing soldiers' walls during World War II.

The Alfa had been created custom, also like Hayworth, who changed her name and appearance in an effort to attract the right type of attention in Hollywood.

Early years

Like Hayworth, the 6C 2500 was launched in the 30s. It was produced at the Portello factory, which was run by engineer Ugo Gobbato, a man with a strong background in mechanical engineering who made every effort to improve efficiency. He implemented new standards and methods in the process, even writing two books about the subject.

Gobbato's efforts focused on retail production, but not mass production. He hired a generation of young engineers, and established a clear heirarchy giving workers precise roles and corresponding salaries.

The 6C 2500 was a direct descendant of the 2300 B, with innovative equipment for its time including a rear torsion bar suspension with telescopic shock absorbers and hydraulic brakes replacing outdated equipment.

Model upgrades

With the performance upgrades, the the model was able to handle a more invigorating drive than its predecessor. Its Super Sport variant now produced 110 horsepower and it was capable of reaching 105.6 mph.

Hayworth too was a model that upgraded the previous generation. Actress Jean Harlow was the original bottle blonde bombshell, playing what has become known as the typical sex symbol, before the auburn-tinted-haired Hayworth arrived on the scene. Harlow passed away in 1939 and Hayworth picked up the torch, ushering in a new era of Hollywood glamour.

Hayworth was just one of the many smoldering sirens Hollywood propelled to the front. Her contemporaries, including Gene Tierney, Ava Gardner, Lauren Bacall, Hedy Lamarr, and Joan Crawford all fit similar molds with sharp cheekbones, perfectly coifed hair, and sparkling eyes, but had different audiences.

Alfa Romeo was designing the 6C the same way. There were five- and seven-seat versions. Sport and Super Sport wheelbases. Price tags tens of thousands of lire apart. Like it did in Hollywood, the variety worked for audiences.

World War II

While Hayworth's pictures were being distributed widely by troops during World War II, so were bombs. They rained down upon Alfa Romeo's Portello factory from 1943 to 1944 damaging it extensively. Other Italian automakers suffered similar fates including Pininfarina and Fiat.

The company rebounded, if ever so slightly, in 1945, producing a handful of versions of the 6C 2500 Sport. The next year was better, with 146 models produced between finished cars and chassis sent to coachbuilders.

One of the chassis models made its way to the Paris Motor Show in 1946, where the famous Battista "Pinin" Farina stunt took place, despite the fact that Italian made cars were banned from attending.

Agentina's President Juan Peron and his wife Eva "Evita" were driven around in a 6C convertible in 1947 (pictured above) as part of their famed European tour, which was memorialized in the hit Broadway musical "Evita".

King Farouk of Egypt and Rainier III, Prince of Monaco, who would go on to marry his own Hollywood sex symbol in 1956, Grace Kelly, ordered the model.

On May 27, 1949, Hayworth arrived at the town hall in Cannes to marry Prince Aly Kahn driving a 6C 2500 that she had gotten as a wedding present. The car had a gray body, dark blue hood, and upholstery designed to match Hayworth's outfit.

The 6C 2500 SS Coupé Villa d'Este was one of the last Alfas to be built with the frame and body separate. Only 36 of them were made, each one unique. This particular model was different than the others crafted by Touring coachbuilders. Designer Bianchi Anderloni gave the headlights new integration, superimposed elongated cooling sockets, integrated the wheel arches into the bodywork, and split and inclined the windscreen. Its rear was low and pronounced.

Neither the 6C nor Hayworth's story ends there. Both live on - one on display, the other forever displayed on the screen.

Post-restoration, two historic Alfa Romeos show off classic coachbuilding at its finest

Design

The Alfa Romeo 6C 2300B and 2500 were among the most expensive cars in the world during the 1930s and 1940s. Fully restored versions of the two cars will be on display at this year's Concours d'Elegance at Hampton Court Palace on September 4-6, 2020.

The 6C line was produced between 1927 and 1954, taking its name from the six-cylinder engines the model had under their hood. The cars' engines were designed by Vittorio Jano, an engineer who spent time at Fiat before coming over to Alfa Romeo. They combined with an independent suspension and hydraulic brakes to help the 6C win a number of racing victories over its lifespan including first and second place finished in their classes at the 1937 Mille Miglia; 1st, 2nd and 3rd at the 1937 Targa Abruzzo in Pescara; a victory again at Pescara in 1938; and the top spot at the Targa Florio in 1950.

Their engines weren't the focus, however. Each of the models' bodies were built by coachbuilders. In the early 20th Century, coach building was for the world's elite. The cars with customized cabins were more elegant and expensive than the Dodge Custom and the Buick Series 40.

The Alfa Romeo 6C 2300B going on display this September has a body designed by Swiss coach builder Graber. It's one of four that Graber built in a cabriolet style and the only existing model with a Mille Miglia-specification engine and chassis. The car was originally ordered by Bruggmuehle Goldach CEO Martin Mueller. At the time Bruggmuehle Goldach was one of the largest wheat mills in Switzerland.

The car underwent a three-year restoration beginning in 2014 and has been returned to the condition it was when Mueller took delivery from Graber.

The 6C 2500 SS succeeded the 2300 in Alfa Romeo's lineup. The model being shown at the Concours is one of four built by Ghia with Supergioiello – or 'Super Jewel' – coachwork, and just one of three that was built on an Alfa Romeo chassis. However, it's the only one built on an advanced tubular chassis produced by Gilco. The running gear, suspension, and brakes are all period Alfa Romeo 6C components which appear to date primarily from 1948.

The 2500 SS was originally ordered by SIRCA, a dealer in Milan, Italy. The dealer served as Carrozzeria Ghia's representative for the region of Lombardy. The car found its way to the U.K. in 1959 and just two years later it was up for sale again, listed at just £895 (around £25,000 today). From there it lived in Austria and the Netherlands before arriving in America in 2016. There, it's owners undertook a 2.5-year restoration process to get the car back to its original specification.

Today, Nissan announced pricing for the Leaf, which starts at just under $29,000.

2022 Nissan Altima: Three things to know

Comfortable midsize sedan

The Nissan Altima may not get the attention or the praise that the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord get, but it's a solid entry in an ultra-competitive segment. It's also one of few options in its class with available all-wheel drive. We spent a week with the 2022 Nissan Altima SR Midnight Edition with AWD and came away from the experience impressed. Here are three things to know about the car.

The 2022 Nissan Altima is a Good Value

With a starting price in the mid-$20,000 range and available all-wheel drive, it's hard to complain about value here. The Altima is still reasonably priced at the top end, where it maxes out at around $35,000 before options and fees. That's a great value for a spacious, comfortable car like the Altima, and with all-wheel drive it's a great all-weather commuter.

2022 Altima Interior Space and Comfort are Generous

It's easy to ignore Nissan's Zero Gravity seats as another marketing buzzword, but they are legitimately comfortable and supportive in a way that not many others are. Available leather upholstery and contrast stitching give the interior an upscale feel, but even lower trims' cloth upholstery feels nice and works well from a visual standpoint. Up front, there's room for both passengers to stretch out, and the driver won't feel cramped on leg or headroom. Back-seat passengers get a similar treatment, as there's plenty of space for adults and kids. Parents will find an easy time loading and unloading car seats as well.

The 2023 Nissan Altima Gets an Update

Nissan is refreshing the Altima for 2023 with a facelift, new tech, and better safety features. The new car will go on sale in the fall of 2022 and will come in several trims, including one with Nissan's truck VC-Turbo engine. The Altima's most noticeable update will be its front fascia, which is all-new for 2023. Nissan gives the car a fresh grille design that varies depending on the trim, and LED headlights will be standard. Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard, and the Altima is available with all-wheel drive, ProPilot Assist, and more.
