Bentley Continental GT Mulliner Convertible takes open top grand touring up a notch

The Bentley Continental GT Mulliner Convertible is the first member of the new Collections portfolio introduced by Bentley Mulliner, a division of Bentley that raises the bar on vehicle offerings with additional possibilities for customization.

Up front are cut-crystal inspired, precision-made headlamps, which sit on the sides of a new Double Diamond front grille. There are also bespoke Mulliner-branded side vents that feature a silver-on-black diamond theme, illuminated Mulliner tread plates, and LED welcome lamps that project the Bentley wings to the ground from the door mirrors.

Under the hood is the buyer's choice of a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter W12 or a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine. The larger engine gets the car from zero to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of 207 mph. The V8 has a top speed of 198 mph and gets to 60 mph off the line in 4.0 seconds.

The open-top car has Grand Black wallet veneer standard. Buyers can stay standard or opt to customize the look by choosing from 87 other piano-finished wood veneers. Options include the ability to match the wood to the exterior of the car. To do this, burr walnut veneer is hand sanded and polished to produce a smooth finish before painting to match the color of the customer's choice. Once dry, the veneer is polished to achieve a mirror-like finish.

Chrome details overlay the piano veneer, even showing a convertible silhouette in the passenger fascia and a B-motif in the door waistrails.

Buyers can choose from eight custom-made three-color combinations for the interior. The hand-stitched hides are embellished with unique Mulliner-branded embroidery.

The Double Diamond design continues into the cabin where a quilter version of the concept adorns four seats, door casinos, rear quarters, and a tonneau cover. To delver the quilting across the cabin, there are almost 400,000 stitches. Each diamond contains 712 individual stitches.

The center console has a Diamond Milled Technical finish. There's a Breitling for Mulliner clock that features a brushed metallic face and bejeweled hour marks. The clock bezel and air vent surrounds are finished in chrome.

Bentley is making the Continental GT Mulliner Convertible available with a Naim for Bentley audio system. The setup features 18 speakers and two Active Bass transducers driven by a 2,200‑watt, 20-channel amplifier and eight DSP sound modes with Active Bass.

The Continental GT Mulliner Convertible rides on new 22-inch 10-spoke painted and polished wheels that have floating, self-leveling wheel badges that remain upright as the wheel rotates.

Buyers get the keys to their car I a Mulliner-branded handcrafted presentation box, which matches the three-color interior configuration of the car. The two keys are provided in similarly color-matched leather cases with contrast stitching.

The Bugatti Chiron Sport "Les Légendes du Ciel" edition pays homage to vintage aircraft.

In the aftermath of World War I, company founder Ettore Bugatti showcased the first three vehicles made by the company that bore his name. They were race cars and Bugatti found itself at the pinnacle of the sport very quickly.

By 1930, the company would begin its relationship with the aerospace industry, first with the Bugatti 100P, which never actually flew due to World War II, but served as the inspiration for a number of patents that are filed by the company. The plane went into storage as the Second World War kicked off and Mr. Bugatti would never again work on it during his lifetime.

Bugatti is honoring its racing and aviation past with a new series of Chiron Sport models dubbed "Les Légendes du Ciel". The drivers who piloted the Bugattis to success in the early 1900s were often time multitalented with resumes declaring them flying aces, daredevils, and technically skilled pilots.

"Bugatti has had close associations with aviation since the company was established more than 110 years ago. Many successful Bugatti racing drivers, such as Albert Divo, Robert Benoist and Bartolomeo 'Meo' Costantini, flew for the French Air Force, the French aviator legend Roland Garros privately drove a Bugatti Type 18 to be as fast on the road as in the air," says Stephan Winkelmann, President of Bugatti. "It is therefore almost an obligation for us today to pay tribute to the legends of that time and dedicate a special edition to them."

Each of the new models features a special, matte gray "Gris Serpent" paint job, which is inspired by the exterior color of aircrafts from the 1920s. The color extends front to rear with high-contrast, which gloss stripe running up the center. The front wings are adorned with the "Les Légendes du Ciel" logo. The "Le Bleu-Blanc-Rouge" tricolor decorates the front area of the side sills made of exposed black carbon fiber.

At the front is Bugatti's traditional horseshoe radiator grille, finished in gloss black. The grille mesh is made of laser-cut and deep-drawn aluminum, and constructed in a dynamic pattern that that is repeated on the car's leather seats. Entry lights project the edition logo on the ground at entry while "Les Légendes du Ciel" logo on the middle console inlays.

Bugatti has covered the engine with black exposed carbon fiber with contrasting white lettering. The material continues at the back where black exposed carbon fibre and a black-coated exhaust trim cover made of 3D printed, high-temperature-resistant Inconel dominate.

The car's interior is almost entirely upholstered in leather. The leather's light brown color was chosen to be reminiscent of the natural leather in early aircrafts. On the door panels there is a hand-sketched racing scene between the Nieuport 17 aircraft and a Bugatti Type 13.

The new Bugatti Chiron Sport "Les Légendes du Ciel" edition is limited to 20 vehicles. Every model is independently numbered and costs $3.5 million.

This 1924 Bentley 3 Litre was one of just 1,600 made.

The Bentley 3 Litre is one of the greatest historic race cars of all time, but you might not think that based on a first glance. It was a Le Mans champion in the early days of the contest winning in 1924, 1927, 1928, 1929 and 1930 beating the famously fast Bugattis of the era.

Bentley first built the car in 1919, debuted it at the Olympia Motor Exhibition, and made it available to coach builders a few years later. The cars were produced in Red Label, Blue Label, and Green Label formats with the Green Label models being the rarest and most highly specialized for racing.

DM Historics has taken Bentley 3 Litre chassis 589 (of approximately 1,600) and expertly overhauled. There's only 12,700 miles on the odometer of the model and it has a long Bentley Drivers Club history. The car served duty as the pilot car for the BDC Jubilee Run in 1969 as well as featuring heavily in the "Bentley Golden Jubilee Book 1919 -1969".

History tells that the first owner of this Bentley was W H B Moorehead a magistrate from Newry, who had it finish in a four-seater combination.

The historic racing engineers in charge of the project starting in on the overhaul in 2018. The extensive renovation restored the car to a near factory standard, taking it back to very near the condition it was when it rolled off the line in 1924. Work was done cooperation with pre-war Vintage specialists Kingsbury.

The car has also been uplifted a smidge. It now has a two-wire Dynamo, electronic voltage regulator, 12-volt LED lighting, 6.5-liter rear axle, and replacement pistons. Repairers have kept the car's original three-cylinder engine with super carburettors and a period-correct four-speed gearbox. To meet modern standards, the car received rebuilt magnetos, and new and period-correct exhaust and fuel systems.

Chassis 589 has been restored to wear the most iconic Bentley racing livery. That includes a black exterior with refurbished wheels, lights, and a bespoke tonneau cover.

Its interior is equally as refined with red leather racing-style seats with contrasting black carpets and red piping. The original 18-inch four-spoke steering wheel is in place as are all the original dials and gauges, in full working order.

After a long history of ownership and restoration, the model is for sale again. The price? £285,000.
