New Lotus car name was hiding in plain sight but pretty much everyone missed it

The next generation of Lotus is on its way. After the company ditched the Elise, Evora, and Exige in favor of the Evija and a new sports car. That new sports car now officially has a name: Emira.

Emira, pronounced 'E-meer-a" is a strong choice. It is derived from a number of ancient languages and means 'commander' or 'leader'.

Before the car was named Emira, it was called the Lotus Type 131, a codename styling that is common in the automotive world as companies work out trademarks in a timeline that still keeps the vehicle under wraps. However, in recent days, Lotus had been dropping hints regarding the car's name.

A film released ons social media featured a pattern of dots and dashes that made up the central line on the roadway. Those that know Morse Code could have spotted that it spelled Emira. Today, April 27, is the anniversary of the birthday of Samuel Morse, inventor of Morse Code.

The company has revealed that the car will fully debut on July 6 ahead of its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed a few days later. A fresh peek at a film the automaker added to Instagram today show off the face of the new car in a sort of sneak peak. Further, another promotional photo released by the company appears to show off the car's driver's side rear haunch.

In a move sure to anger eco warriors but please driving enthusiasts, Lotus has confirmed that the new car will not be a hybrid. It will be the last time that Lotus launches a car with an internal combustion engine and is brought to the masses thanks to what the company calls "an exciting new partnership". Promises have been made to give the car "cutting edge" technology that will make it efficient.

"It's the most accomplished Lotus for generations – the perfectly packaged, powered and formed sports car. Beautifully proportioned, shrink-wrapped, but with comfort, technology and ergonomics built in. With a design inspired by the Evija all-electric hypercar, it's a game-changing Lotus sports car," said Matt Windle, managing director, Lotus Cars.

Mopar has introduced unique accessories for the new Jeep Wrangler 4xe.

The 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid electric vehicle will soon arrive on dealership lots. Ahead of that moment, Mopar has released the details of some of its new Jeep Performance Parts lineup for the new model.

"With an industry-first lift kit for a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, Jeep Performance Parts from Mopar will give owners of the new 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe the opportunity to amplify the 4x4 capability and the fun-to-drive, open-air experience of the most capable, technically advanced, eco-friendly SUV," said Jim Morrison, Vice President, Jeep Brand North America. "The 2021 Wrangler 4xe is Trail Rated with solid front and rear axles, a full-time 4x4 two-speed transfer case, a fully articulating suspension and 30 inches of water fording capability."

JPP 2-inch lift kit (77072522 | $1,495): The industry-first lift kit for a plug-in hybrid vehicle is tuned specifically for the Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid vehicle application. The kit includes four springs, four FOX shocks, front lower control arms, front and rear stabilizer links, front and rear bump stops, various fasteners and the JPP badge, all packaged in a custom, reusable wooden crate complete with the JPP logo.

240-volt, at-home, electric vehicle wall chargers: The 240-volt wall chargers are available with branding from Mopar or Jeep in hardwired (HCS40 | $621.50) or plug-in (HCS40P | $647.90) versions for at-home use. Customers can enjoy a charging time that is more than five times faster for their iconic off-roader versus the standard cordset cable. Both wall chargers are available at the Mopar eStore.

JPP rock rails (82215165AB | $925): For the serious off-roader, JPP rock rails provide added lower-body protection to the vehicle. Rails are roll-formed and constructed from zinc-coated steel for superior corrosion resistance. The outer surface is e-coated and then DuraBull®-coated (truck bedliner coating) to provide superior protection.

JPP tube doors (77072498AC | $1,195): Constructed of 2-inch round, heavy-gauge steel tubes, JPP tube doors create more open-air freedom. Production hinges and rubber bump stops are used for added strength and factory fit and finish, while preventing shakes and rattles.

JPP mirror kit for tube doors (77072562AA | $215): For added functionality of the JPP tube doors, the mirror kit includes two side mirrors that provide an improved range of vision during open-air adventures. Available beginning in early May.

JPP half doors (part of Dual-Door Group – sales code AJB for two-door | $2,350; AJB for four-door | $3,995; AJS for two-door | $2,550; AJS for four-door | $4,395): Ordered as an option during a new-vehicle purchase, the Mopar Custom Shop offers the Dual-Door Group that includes both full and half doors. New half-door option enhances the Jeep Wrangler driving experience with production styling, security and occupant protection. With lower window ledges, visibility is improved while maneuvering on and off road. New upper-window assemblies – available in base vinyl (AJB) or premium acrylic (AJS) – create a weather-tight seal and feature zippered plastic windows for quick, easy removal. Available in late summer.

JPP front bumper (82215691AD | $1,275): Rigorously tested for performance, durability and corrosion, this heavy-duty front bumper is steel e-coated and black-powder coated. D-rings are included for extra towing capability. The bumper is fully compatible with the Jeep Performance Parts Rubicon Warn winch.

JPP Rubicon Warn winch (P5160095AC | $1,595): Completely waterproof and submersible to ensure reliable operation during water fording and other adverse conditions, the Rubicon Warn winch includes 100 feet of Warn Spydura™ Synthetic Rope and is finished in three-stage zinc phosphate, e-coat and powder coating.

JPP grille and winch guard hoop (82215351 | $249): The grille and winch guard hoop is constructed from 2-inch black powder-coated steel and bolts to the Rubicon steel front bumper or JPP steel front bumper.

JPP 7-inch off-road LED light kit (82215386AB | $725): Emitting 8,000 lumens each, a pair of 7-inch off-road LED lights provides superior performance without shadows and gives increased visibility for a more illuminating off-road driving experience.

The 2022 Honda Civic Sedan will be made in Canada.

The 11th-generation Honda Civic has arrived, bringing with it a toned down exterior appearance compared to the 10th-generation model, but a funkier interior. The Civic has been the top choice for first-time American buyers, Millennials, Gen Z, and multicultural customers since 2015.

With the new Civic, designers wished to give the car a more planted appearance. This was achieved by moving the A-pillars forward nearly two inches, elongating the hood, and visually connecting the pillar to the front wheel hub. The low cowl hides the windshield wipers allowing better forward visibility. Additionally, the outside mirrors have been positioned away from the windshield pillars.

Honda's team has also widened the track of the car, emphasizing the new dimensions with stronger shoulders, wide-set LED taillights, and a more aerodynamic trailing edge of the trunk lid. Headlights, daytime running lights, parking lights, and available fog lights all utilize LED lights.

Suspension improvements, a 1.4-inch longer wheelbase, and lessened noise, vibration, and harshness contribute to the Civic's better ride generation-over-generation and more dynamic drive capabilities.

Honda plans to sell the Civic Sedan in eight paint jobs, including three new ones: Meteorite Gray Metallic, Sonic Gray Pearl, and Morning Mist Blue Metallic.

Honda will sell the new Civic with the same powertrains that were in the 2021 model: a 2.0-liter four-cylinder and a 1.5-liter turbo-four. Both are paired with a continuously variable transmission. Though they are the same engine, Honda tells that power deliver, engine sound, overall refinement, and fuel economy ratings have been improved. The 1.5-liter has also gotten a power boost.

Normal and Eco drive modes are standard. A Sport mode is available in some models.

The best fuel economy comes from the Civic EX, which gets an EPA-estimated 33 mpg in the city, 42 mpg on the highway, and 36 mpg combined.

The car's changeover includes design and technology refreshes and additions in the interior as well. The car's instrument panel has been designed with minimal cutlines to improve windshield reflections and visual distractions. There's new honeycomb mesh stretched from door to door across the dashboard that encompasses air vents under one harmonious look.

Product planners have paid special attention to the touch points of the new Civic, ensuring that high-quality and practical materials abound. For example, there's new premium center console trim specifically designed to hide fingerprints and smudges to help maintain a high-end appearance.

2022 Hodna Civic Sedan Touring

Honda has enhanced the car's front seat design, introducing next-gen seat framing that firmly holds the body in place, enhancing comfort on long trips.

Much of the Civic's technology is similar to what you'll find in the 2021 Honda Accord. Civic LX, Sport, and EX grades get a seven-inch LCD instrument display that puts the all-digital speedometer and tachometer on the left side of the panel while the physical speedometer dial is on the right.

In the top-level Touring trim, Civic gets a fully digital instrument panel that measures 10.2 inches. Here, drivers can choose between having their speedometer and tachometer displayed as a dial or a bar graph that flanks the screen. In the middle is a variety of user-selectable information, such as the current music selection and a trip computer, with the center of the display used to indicate the status of various Honda Sensing safety and driver assist systems. The brake lights, headlights, and turn signals of the displayed Civic vehicle image turn on and off with those functions.

Civic LX, Sport, and EX get a standard seven-inch infotainment touch screen that comes complete with ta volume/power knob and tuning/selection knob. There's a row of hard buttons below the screen that perform skip, audio menu, and audio source functions. Civic Touring gets a nine-inch infotainment touch screen with similar buttons and knobs.

Honda has included a slight finger rest area below the screen to make selection easier. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. Civic Touring comes standard with wireless charging capability and a custom-tuned, 12-speaker Bose audio system.

The 2022 Civic will be the first car in the world to have Honda's next-generation airbags for both front row passengers. The passenger airbag is designed to expand and wrap around the head and shoulders of the parties for a brief moment upon impact disallowing spinning and twisting of the neck, head, and shoulders, and lessening the impact of knocks to the upper body. The donut-shaped driver's airbag performs a similar function.

The automaker's upgraded suite of Honda Sensing active safety and driver assist technologies now uses a single camera system that provides a wider field of view than the previous radar-and-camera-based system. More powerful computer processing speeds and fresh obstacle and road sign detection abilities make the system more accurate and quicker to respond than before.

Honda Sensing also has added traffic jam assist functionality and more natural steering action when using lane keep assist. Low speed braking control has been added for 2022.

The 11th-generation will be produced in Alliston, Ontario, Canada, and for the first time, the Civic Hatchback will be manufactured in the U.S., at the company's Greensburg, Indiana plant. All Civic production in North American will use domestic and globally-sourced parts.
