2022 Lincoln Navigator Black Label gets new themes

The Navigator gets several updates for 2022, including new styling and tech.

Lincoln

The Lincoln Navigator was one of the first ultra-luxury SUVs when it launched over two decades ago, which helped kickstart the big-vehicle craze that still rages on today. Lincoln has continued improving the Navigator over the years to the point that it's now a rolling showcase of the latest and most impressive tech, staggering luxury features, and actual utility vehicle functionality. The vehicle was last fully overhauled in 2018, but the 2022 model picks up revised style, even more premium features, and new themes for the range-topping Navigator Black Label model.

Lincoln introduced two new themes as part of the Navigator's Black Label offering for 2022. The Central Park theme features dark walnut open-pore wood trim, luxury leather in an exclusive Urban Green color, and an available Black Label-exclusive Manhattan Green Metallic paint color. The Invitation theme brings open-pore Khaya wood, Venetian luxury black leather, special interior lighting elements, and brandy-colored stitching. Both themes feature laser etching and other intricate detail work inside the vheicle.

Black Label launched in 2014 and is Lincoln's top-end end model offering. It's available in the Nautilus, Aviator, and Navigator, and brings several vehicle features and auxiliary services to Lincoln owners. Black Label vehicle features and services include:

  • Concierge access: The Lincoln concierge can schedule service or cleaning, answer vehicle questions, and help schedule dinners or other experiences. Black Label owners also get a complimentary dinner for two, which can be scheduled through the concierge.
  • Special airport and rental car services: Lincoln partnered with Avis to provide guaranteed rental car access, an exclusive and dedicated phone line for Black Label owners, and free rentals at select airports. Owners also get a membership to CLEAR, which offers expedited airport security passage and other perks.
  • Extended complimentary maintenance plan: Black Label owners receive four years of free maintenance. If the owner lives within 50 miles of a dealer, they will pick up and deliver the vehicle so that the owner does not need to leave home. Free car washes and annual detailing are also part of the deal.

We don't have pricing details for the 2022 Navigator yet, but we expect its price tag to be similar to that of the 2021 Black Label model, which started at around $100,000 after destination. Lincoln says that it will release more information closer to the Navigator's expected on-sale date early in 2022.

The QX60 is all-new for 2022.

Infiniti

Infiniti has released detailed specs and features for its all-new QX60 SUV. The upscale family hauler will land later this year with a reasonable starting price, updated tech, a nicely appointed cabin, and plenty more. The automaker offers its new SUV in four trims, each of which is available with all-wheel drive: Pure, Luxe, Sensory, and Autograph.

The QX60 is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 that makes 295 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is available, and all models get a new nine-speed automatic transmission. Infiniti says that the gearbox has a low first gear that helps deliver better acceleration and power off the line, and taller upper gears for smoother cruising on the highway. The revised all-wheel drive system is more responsive and engages more quickly than the system in the previous model.

An upgraded interior is in the cards for the new QX60, as all models now get leather, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel as standard equipment. Front passengers' backsides are treated to Infiniti's excellent zero-gravity seats and a stiffer second-row seat frame reduces vibration and noise in the cabin. Infiniti says that the cabin itself has more sound-deadening materials and thicker glass in the second row, which together yield a 7 percent improvement in noise on the highway.

A 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen is standard that runs wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Six USB ports, nine speakers, HD Radio Bluetooth, voice commands, and SiriusXM radio are also standard. All but the base Pure trim level come with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and the top Autograph model gets a 10.8-inch full-color head-up display and a smart rearview mirror.

The new QX60 goes on sale this fall in the U.S. and Canada. Pricing starts at $47,875 for the base Pure model and tops out at $64,275 for the top Autograph AWD trim.

Two minivans that make family hauling fun

The latest minivans are actually quite desirable.

Toyota

There are people who wouldn't be seen dead in a minivan and then there are people who are lying. That's the long-held mentality around America's most useful but most maligned family-hauling vehicles, but the latest offerings from Toyota, Honda, Kia, and Chrysler are out to prove the old way of thinking wrong. Two of them, the newly redesigned Toyota Sienna and brand-new Kia Carnival are truly compelling vehicles that bring style and substance to the category. Here's a look at what makes them so cool.

2021 Toyota Sienna

Toyota overhauled the Sienna for 2021 with an all-hybrid powertrain across the board, sharp style, and a gorgeous interior. The Sienna's 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine pairs with two electric motors for a total output of 243 horsepower. The van is offered with all-wheel drive, which adds a third electric motor that drives the rear wheels. Though it won't win any drag races, the Sienna makes up for its leisurely acceleration with great fuel economy that can reach 36 mpg city with front-wheel drive and 35 mpg city with all-wheel drive.

Along with its new, efficient powertrain, the Sienna got a refreshed interior that is both comfortable and easy on the eyes. The Toyota does lack some of the clever seating features that make such a difference for families in rivals such as the Chrysler Pacifica, but the van does carry sliding second-row seats that can move a little over two feet forward and backward to allow for more legroom when needed. The top two trims also offer optional reclining seats with fold-away ottomans and an available built-in vacuum cleaner.

2022 Kia Carnival

2022 Kia Carnival Doesn't look all that much like a minivan, does it?Kia

The all-new 2022 Kia Carnival should be viewed as a defining vehicle in the minivan segment. It doesn't exactly look like a minivan, with styling that more closely resembles a stretched SUV than a blobby family-hauler. The Carnival is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 that makes 290 horsepower. It's paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. Acceleration is strong and the powertrain is refined, but unlike the Toyota there's no all-wheel drive option.

Where the Kia truly sets itself apart is its interior. The top SX Prestige trim offers soft, luxurious leather upholstery and reclining seats with footrests like the Toyota. The available panoramic sunroof opens far enough to allow air over the second-row seats and the Carnival's interior finishes are among the best in its class. An optional dual 12.3-inch display covers a large portion of the dash, and offers a responsive, intuitive infotainment experience. The SX and SX Prestige trims both come standard with a rear-seat entertainment system as well.
