The Hyundai Staria will officially debut later this year.

Kia has a new multi-purpose vehicle so it makes sense that its sister company Hyundai would be getting one as well. Just whatever you do, don’t call them vans.

The Hyundai Staria is slated to premiere in the first half of 2021 and the company says that it will take families and businesses to the next level as a mobility solution that makes time in transit more “accommodating, productive and worthwhile”. Additionally, Staria will be a preview of the innovative use of space that will be available through the company’s upcoming purpose built vehicles for the mobility era.

Hyundai has teamed up with Canoo, which recently debuted a pickup truck of its own, to create platforms for their upcoming lineup of purpose built electric vehicles.

Like Honda does with its vehicles, Hyundai has designed the Staria with its inside-out approach, doing the interior design work first then expanding to the exterior. The shift comes as Hyundai’s research shows customers now prioritize the use of interior space.

The exterior of the model is meant to look spaceship-esque. with a streamlined silhouette that is complete with a fluid curve running from front to back. At the vehicle’s face are horizontal daytime running lights and a positioning lamp. Its strong grille faces a unique facade. Headlamps are set low and to the sides of the grille. The vehicle appears monochromatic as the company uses the same body color for all frontal parts.

A cleanly designed rear features vertical taillamp and a wide rear view. Its rear bumper is lowered to help passengers easily load and unload the cargo.

Hyundai will sell the Staria in a base and Premium model. There may be more options, but the company hasn’t revealed those yet. The Premium grade’s grille features a mesh pattern while a chrome line surrounds the cube-type, full-LED headlamps. The tinted brass chrome applied to the Hyundai emblem on the front, wheels, side mirrors and door handles is designed to highlight the vehicle’s styling and give it the air of sophistication. The Staria Premium rides on 18-inch wheels with diamond patterns and graphics.

The interior of the vehicle takes its inspiration from a cruise ship. There’s a 10.25-inch front display screen, touch-based center fascia, and a button-type electronic shifter. The digital instrument cluster is located on top of the dashboard.

Storage space is available on top of the overhead console, bottom of the cluster, and top and bottom of the center fascia. The center console box is equipped with cup holders, USB ports, and additional storage space for both driver and passengers.

Hyunda will offer the Staria in a number of seating arrangements from two to 11 seats. The Staria Premium has seven, nine, or 11 seats. The seven-seat model features a one-touch relaxation mode on its second-row premium relaxation seats, automatically reclining to a seat posture that comfortably disperses the passenger’s weight and improves overall body balance. The nine-seater version has the added ability to swivel 180 degrees to face passengers in the third row.

The model is complete with its 64-color ambient mood lamp as well as indirect lighting that can be aimed at the cockpit, floor console, and door and luggage trims.

More information about the world premiere of the Hyundai Staria will be revealed soon.
