Mappo is a new way to explore. The app provides culture-oriented travel recommendations based on books, movies, music, and more, going further than the traditional reach of points of interest recommendations. It includes themed routes and utilizes crowd sourcing to generate content from locations around the globe.

The app launched with 30,000 points of interest with references in more than a dozen major cities in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Points of interest aren't just marked on a map, but are supported with content such as quotes, book clips and trivia. Users can browse points of interest nearby, or you can use the search box to look up themed routes based on a place, the name of an author or book, or several other filters such as movies, music and history.

Ford will be the first automaker to add Mappo to its vehicles. The addition is the result of a collaboration between Mappo, a startup from Tel Aviv, Israel, and the Ford Research Center in Israel.

"People love telling their friends about interesting places in books, movies and music – now they can share these passions with the world through Mappo," said Stuart Taylor, global director, Ford enterprise connectivity. "Mappo makes long drives or brief escapes richer experiences, whether people stay inside their vehicle or step out to experience a landmark."

Customers who have vehicles equipped with SYNC 3 or SYNC 4 technology will be able to use Mappo through voice commands, giving them an easy way to experience the app as they travel. Mappo also will be available for the 2021 F-150, Mustang Mach-E, Bronco, and other future Ford vehicles.

Vehicles equipped with navigation technology can use SYNC AppLink for the unique capability of creating routes to the points of interest found in the Mappo app.

In addition to Ford vehicles, the Mappo app is aviaalbe for iOS and Android devices.

Getting in and out of your vehicle to explore doesn't stop the Mappo experience. Any saved route on your smartphone can be easily selected once running the app inside your vehicle, and you can quickly pick up where you left off – whether leaving a vehicle to explore or coming back to continue to your next destination.

Ford Mustang Mach-E named EV of the Year

The Mach-E won Car & Driver's inaugural EV of the Year Award

Ford

The electric vehicle revolution is here, and it's turning out to be more exciting than most people probably expected. The EVs of today are quick, sometimes luxurious, and can offer range numbers that extend hundreds of miles on a charge. Ford, one of the world's oldest automakers, arrived with an EV of its own this year, the Mustang Mach-E. Regardless of whether you feel it's worthy of the Mustang name or not, there's no denying that it's a special vehicle. Auto journalists recognize that, too, as it just won Electric Vehicle of the Year from Car & Driver.

This year is Car & Driver's first EV of the Year Award, but with all the action in the marketplace, it's certainly not going to be the last. In the next year alone, we'll see new offerings from Rivian, Ford, General Motors, and others, and that doesn't take any of today's excellent vehicles into account.

The C&D test included 11 EVs and took place over a three-week period. Each vehicle was subjected to a 1,000-mile road trip to evaluate its performance in the real world. The tests use the same criteria as the publications ten-best awards, which means it has to offer great and engaging driving experience, be practical or offer incredible value, and must fulfill its mission better than its competitors. Beyond the Mustang Mach-E, the test included:

  • Audi e-tron
  • Kia Niro
  • Nissan Leaf Plus
  • Polestar 2
  • Porsche Taycan
  • Tesla Model 3 Performance
  • Tesla Model S Long Range Plus
  • Tesla Model Y Performance
  • Volkswagen ID.4
  • Volvo XC40 Recharge

The C&D award is a nice feather in the cap for Ford, but the Mustang Mach-E is no stranger to accolades. In addition to the EV of the Year Award, the vehicle has picked up the C&D Editor's Choice Award, the Cars.com Eco-Friendly Car of the Year Award, AutoGuide's Utility of the Year, a Car Buyer's Award from Autoweek, and Green Vehicle of the Year.

The Ford Bronco is finally ready for primetime.

Ford

The time is finally here. After years of speculation and several months of pandemic-related delays, the Ford Bronco is starting to roll off the assembly line. The SUV marks the first new Bronco model in Ford's lineup in 15 years, not counting the Bronco Sport, and is one of the most hyped and sought-after vehicles to hit the market in quite some time. Ford's announcement that production has begun will be accompanied by a special YouTube presentation that Ford says will include interviews with the Bronco team and with reservation holders at the automaker's new Modification Center.

Bronco production has driven Ford to invest $750 million into its Michigan Assembly Plant, and the automaker says it has added 2,700 jobs to support the rollout. Ford's push to begin production can't come soon enough. Over 125,000 Bronco orders have been placed, and multiple delays have pushed the vehicle's arrival back, meaning there is considerable demand for the off-road legend.

Ford is ready to capitalize on the craze and will offer several ways to customize the new vehicle. At its 1.7 million square-foot Modification Center, The Blue Oval will factory-install several optional modifications that include equipment such as a front bumper safari bar, graphics packages, roof racks, and more. That's on top of more than 200 factory-backed accessories that can be installed at the dealer, either at or after the time of purchase.

If you are hoping to get behind the wheel of a new Bronco, it could be a while. Even buyers that have been in line for a while now might not see their new vehicle until late 2021 or 2022, and the vehicle's official rollout will almost certainly re-spike demand. Even so, many feel it's worth the wait, and Ford's vehicle configuration tool is live, so go check it out for yourself.
