The 2022 Ram 1500 Limited 10th Anniversary Edition gets an exclusive blue paint color.

Pickup trucks have long been more than the rugged workhorse vehicles they once were. People buy and use trucks as their everyday vehicles, and automakers have responded by making more spacious, comfortable, and efficient pickups. Nowhere is that more apparent than with Ram, whose 1500 light duty pickup truck carried away award after award when its new generation hit the streets in 2019. In its top trims, the Ram 1500 shames many luxury cars on interior quality, comfort, and technology, but the brand isn't done adding "stuff."

If you needed any confirmation that big, luxurious pickup trucks are here to stay, here it is. Today, Ram Trucks announced the Ram 1500 Limited 10th Anniversary Edition. Beyond having a tongue-twister for a name, the truck is packed to the gills with highbrow materials and features.

To set it apart on the outside, the truck will get an exclusive Blue Shade paint color, along with a multi-function tailgate and adjustable cargo tie-down hooks. Inside, Ram says that the 1500's already impressive interior will be pushed further into premium territory with quilted leather upholstery and door inserts, a suede headliner, and special 10th anniversary badges. The truck's digital gauge cluster and infotainment screen will display unique graphics upon vehicle startup. Capping off the plush cabin, the Anniversary Edition truck will be offered with a new Indigo and Sea Salt Grey interior color and will get a 19-speaker premium audio system.

The 2022 Ram 1500 Limited 10th Anniversary Special Edition is sold only in a crew cab body style. Ram offers the truck with either the 5.7-liter V8 with eTorque or with its 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine. The new special edition expands the already mammoth Ram 1500 lineup. At the bottom end of the spectrum is the Ram 1500 Tradesman, a stripped-down work truck with only the essentials. From there, there is the Big Horn, the Laramie, the Rebel, the Limited Longhorn, and the Limited. All of that is on top of the Hellcat-powered Ram 1500 TRX and the Ram 1500 Classic, which itself is offered in three trim levels.

Volkswagen nixing Passat after 2022 model year

Racing Green Metallic is one of four exclusive colors for the car.

Volkswagen

After five decades on sale in the U.S., Volkswagen is pulling the plug on the midsize Passat. The explosion of SUVs' popularity and the need to shift production power to electric vehicles are behind the decision, which will take place after the 2022 model year. The cars have been built at the automaker's Chattanooga, TN plant since 2011, but the facility is being repurposed as VW's North American hub for electric vehicle assembly.

Volkswagen is giving the car one last hurrah, however, in the form of the Passat Limited Edition. The car features 18-inch wheels, LED headlights with an Advanced Front Lighting System, and an easy-open trunk. Inside, the cars come with sport seats wrapped in Vienna leather, memory seating, a Fender Premium Audio System, parking assistance, and parking sensors.

Only 1,973 of the cars will be built, and it will only be sold in four colors, each with its own limited production numbers that have special meaning for the Passat:

  • Aurora Red Metallic with Titan Black interior: 411 units to represent the original vehicle production code
  • Racing Green Metallic with Mauro Brown interior: 423 units to commemorate the Chattanooga 423 area code
  • Pure white with Mauro Brown interior: 524 units to signify the Chattanooga plant's May 24 opening date
  • Platinum Great Metallic with Titan Black interior: 615 units to signify six generations of imported Passats, one generation assembled in Chattanooga, and five decades of U.S. sales

Pricing for the 2022 Passat starts at $31,290, which includes a $995 destination fee. Adding Aurora Red Metallic drives the price up by an additional $395. Each car will receive a special number plate to designate its place in the limited production run.

The Ford F-150 Lightning is the company’s first all-electric pickup truck

The day is finally here. Ford has just taken the wraps off its hotly anticipated F-150 Lightning full-size electric pickup truck. The electrified pickup will be the most powerful F-150 ever made, and will offer buyers a unique set of features thanks to its battery packs and electric powertrain.

The Lightning will come packing 563 horsepower and 773 pound-feet of torque, which will provide a zero to 60 mph time in the mid-four-second range and standard four-wheel drive. Ford is targeting a payload capacity of 2,000 pounds in standard-range models with 18-inch wheels and a max tow rating of 10,000 pound for models with an extended-range battery and Max Trailer Tow Package. All of that in a truck that will have a 300-mile driving range on a single charge, a giant frunk (front trunk), and the ability to act as a generator with enough juice to power a home.

Inside, the F-150 Lightning will feature a 15.5-inch center touchscreen running Ford's SYNC 4A infotainment software. Beyond the staples such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the system is designed to adapt to driver behavior and can provide in-depth information on how the truck is performing at any given moment. Ford says that it will continue to improve the system and add new features via over-the-air (OTA) updates, which may prolong the new truck's lifecycle as new functions become available.

Ford says it tested the new truck in punishing conditions for towing capability, hot and cold temperature resistance, and for safety in collisions. The F-150 Lightning carries a liquid cooling system, and its battery is contained within a waterproof casing that sits inside a crash-absorption protector. The truck's powertrain layout is designed to manage heat distribution across the vehicle to allow it to perform in harsh temperatures.

When it's time to charge, the Lightning will feature an exclusive 80-amp charge station that uses the truck's dual onboard chargers to replenish battery power more quickly at home. Ford says the system will allow the Lightning to add an average of 30 miles of range per charging hour, and notes that an extended-range version of the truck can charge completely from 15 percent battery in around eight hours. Out in the wild, the F-150 Lightning's infotainment system will help drivers plan their routes to reach charging stations while taking weather, traffic, and payload into consideration. The Lightning, like the Ford Mustang Mach-E before it, can take advantage of the FordPass network, which includes over 16,000 charging stations across the country.

The Ford F-150 Lightning will begin hitting dealers' lots in spring 2022. The truck will be offered in four trim levels and two battery options, and will be sold at Ford's 2,300-plus EV-certified dealers in the U.S. The Blue Oval will offer a commercial version of the Lightning with a starting price of $39,974 and the more comfortable mid-range XLT model will start at $52,974. Both prices are before any federal or state incentives are applied.
