GMC introduces first Terrain AT4, refreshes all existing Terrain models 2022
The GMC Terrain AT4 will make its debut for the 2022 model year.
GMC is fulfilling its promise to expand the AT4 brand throughout the GMC lineup, just as it has done with the upmarket Denali grade. The 2022 GMC Terrain AT4 marks the final AT4 puzzle piece and joins a refreshed 2022 GMC Terrain Denali in the company's lineup.
The 2022 Terrain AT4 is the most off-road capable Terrain in the company's portfolio. That doesn't mean that it's rough and ready. Rather, it has a few design details that make is hardier than the others, including a steel skid plate.
The AT4 and Denali are joined by the SLE and SLT in the company's lineup. All the models get a modernized front end complete with a redesigned front fascia and grille that are flanked by redesigned LED headlights and C-shaped taillights. GMC has added four color options for buyers to choose from and there are new 18- and 19-inch wheel designs.
AT4 and Denali grades get unique fascia. Terrain Denali has a fully chrome grille with lattice-work between the slats while the AT4's grille is gray and has thick slats.
Buyers can opt for the Elevation black-out appearance package on SLE and SLT models.
All models are powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that achieves 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque. It's paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. A stronger engine could be introduced in the future.

There is no official word yet on whether or not the car will be available with all-wheel drive though in all likelihood it will. The interior of the GMC Terrain gets its upholstery and accents changed out for the new model year. Other than that, appearance-wise not much has changed.
Standard wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa capability are now available and an 8-inch driver information center becomes standard on Denali SUVs.
GMC will sell a new Technology Package on SLT and AT4 grades. A head-up display is available on SLT and AT4 grades, and standard on Denali.
