Reporting by The Detroit News lays out the way that the 2022 GMC Hummer EV will debut. It will make its first public appearance during the first game of the Major League Baseball (MLB) World Series.

According to the report, General Motors has purchased commercial airtime they can use to show the truck as part of a larger virtual reveal strategy that will include content across multiple platforms. The World Series will be aired on Fox. The company will also show off the Hummer EV on NBC's "The Voice" and YouTube.

The first World Series game is set for October 20 and teams are currently playing for entry into the event. On the American League side, the Tampa Bay Rays are pitted against the New York Yankees while the Houston Astros facing competition from the Oakland Athletics (A's) for entry into the American League Championship Series (ALCS).

Over in the National League, the Los Angeles Dodgers are taking on the San Diego Padres for a spot in the National League Championship Series. Also vying for entry are the Miami Marlins who are going head-to-head with the Atlanta Braves.

The winner of the ALCS games will play the winner from the NLCS in the World Series.

As with the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Bronco, and Volkswagen ID.4, customers will be able to reserve a GMC Hummer EV online immediately following the reveal.

We already know a lot about what to expect from the Hummer EV. It will come in two flavors - truck and SUV. This is the same formula that Rivian is following with its R1T and R1S models. It is expected that the Hummer will go head-to-head with the Rivian models as well as the all-electric Ford F-150 and Tesla Cybertruck when it goes on sale in 2022.

GM will build the truck in Detroit on its new flexible platform and power the model with the company's own Ultium battery, which will give it 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 pound-feet of torque. The models are said to get from zero to 60 mph in three seconds.

The concept has been extensively modified for a life lived off the beaten path.

Overlanding has become a world of its own, with several parts and vehicle customization companies, media publications, and guide services popping up all over the place. GMC realizes this, and to capitalize on the overlanding craze, the automaker built a Canyon AT4 OVRLANDX off-road concept to show off at the Overland Expo Mountain West 2021, which took place last week.

Some of the upgrades on the truck include:

  • Cast-iron control arms
  • A heavy-duty front bumper with winch
  • Front and rear electronic locking differentials
  • An off-road jack and mount
  • Multimatic DSSV dampers
  • Off-road rocker panel protectors

Listing the rest of the upgrades would take more words than anybody cares to read but rest assured that they are plentiful and impressive. GMC says that the concept truck gained legitimate capability from the upgrades. The approach angle is 27.7 degrees, and the truck can ford water up to 32.1 inches, which come thanks to a ground clearance of 10 inches and a custom-built snorkel system. The truck rides on 17-inch wheels wrapped in 33-inch BFGoodrich KM3 mud-terrain tires.

Since it's an overlanding concept, the truck needs the ability to support its passengers well off the beaten path. To do that, GMC gave the Canyon AT4 OVRLANDX a cooler and kitchenette, solar panel, and a truck bed storage system with drawers.

As a concept truck, it's unlikely the AT4 overlanding rig will make it into production as it sits. That said, it's an interesting idea for an intrepid Canyon owner to use as a blueprint. Outside of the chassis work, most of the parts and upgrades can be purchased and installed without a major hassle, but if you're in the market to build a rig, it's best to research your truck's payload capacity and capabilities before overloading for overlanding.

New sports car

The Acura Integra is coming back in 2022

This is all we know about the new Integra's styling.

Secrets are hard to keep these days. It seems like new products always end up being leaked by one of the hundreds of people involved in the development process, to the point that even the most secretive companies have a hard time unveiling a product that people don't already know about. That wasn't the case this week, though. After announcing the final version of its NSX supercar at Monterey Car Week, Acura took to the skies with an impressive drone show that eventually spelled out a message no one expected to see: The Integra is coming back in 2022.

The original car launched in 1986, and its legend grew over time. After accumulating dozens of awards and spawning an entire industry around customizing and enhancing the Integra, Honda and Acura discontinued the car in 2001. We saw a successor to the crown in the Acura RSX for a few short years afterward, but it's been 15 years since a small, tossable sports car has graced the Acura catalog. Granted, Honda has been on a tear with the Civic Si and Civic Type-R, but there has been a hole in the Acura lineup for some time now.

Waiting is the hardest part, as they say. Other than the gorgeous drone display and tantalizingly mysterious teaser photo, we know nothing, which is a difficult spot to be as a car enthusiast. There are a few details, though. The car will return in 2022 as a "compact premium entrant," according to the press release. Company VP and Acura Brand Officer Jon Ikeda also said that the car is "returning to the Acura lineup with the same fun-to-drive spirit and DNA of the original, fulfilling our commitment to Precision Crafted Performance in every way – design, performance and the overall driving experience."

Given parent company Honda's success with performance versions of the Civic, we're optimistic that the 2022 Integra will put its compact dimensions to good use on the road and on the track. We'll have to be patient, though, because official details won't become available until closer to the car's introduction in 2022.
