Limits, schmimits. The Pagani Huayra R is the most extreme expression of power and performance the boutique automaker has ever put on a track. It begs to be pushed to the limit, giving in exchange the type of wheeled freedom that is terrifyingly delightful.

Pagani says that the Huayra R is the modern embodiment of the Le Mans and World Sports-Prototype Championship cars of the 1960s and 1970s. "Today's racing cars are focused exclusively on aerodynamics and are largely the product of the wind tunnel. In the 60s and 70s, however, the cars were very fast, certainly dangerous, but beautiful," said Horacio Pagani, founder of Pagani Automobili S.p.A.

"Prototype sports cars like the Ferrari P4 or the Ford GT40, or the Le Mans cars, had extremely attractive lines, which are still a huge source of inspiration for our cars today. The Porsche 917 is my favourite, with its romantic yet bold shape, which gives the impression of a very fast car. It is beautiful, elegant and timeless. From this desire for freedom, and from the experience of the Zonda R and the cars of the past, came the idea of the Huayra R, like a breath of fresh air."

The Hauyra R picks up where the Zonda R left off. It incorporates elements of the past, present, and future. And, it's made to measure, including its engine. The Pagani V12-R, a 6.0-liter 12-cylinder naturally aspirated engine, is the beating heart of the Hauyra R. It was not based on any production model and is the lightest, most powerful and efficient track-ready V12 ever created. Pagani pairs the engine with a six-speed sequential gearbox. The powertrain delivers 850 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque.

"The new engine had to have the charm, romance, sound and simplicity of the F1 engines of the 1980s, while incorporating state-of-the-art technology available today," said Pagani.

The monocoque is manufactured using the latest composite technologies developed by the Atelier including Carbo-Titanium HP62-G2 and Carbo-Triax HP62. The car's seats are fully incorporated. The front frame is made of chrome-molybdenum alloy steel. The rear frame has an integrated structure with the powertrain unit. The car has a dry weight of 2314 pounds.

Pagani has designed the car to achieve 2204 pounds of downforce at 199 mph. There are two additional air intakes on the car than what is usual for the Hauyra to aid with cooling. A roof scoop with an integrated center fin has also been added.

The car rides on a forged aluminum alloy, independent double wishbone suspension system that includes helical springs and electronically controlled active shock absorbers.

CCM-R self-ventilated carbon-ceramic disc brakes have been specifically developed for the car and paired with racing brake pads.

Each 19-inch forged aluminum-alloy wheel is wrapped in a slick version of the P Zero tires that are available in Wet and Dry variants.

In front of the driver are all the car's essential controls including ABS map selection, radio, and traction control functions. The steering wheel tilts and telescopes, and can be pulled for access to the cockpit. Paddle shifters are mounted to the steering wheel.

Lights, engine maps, suspension maps, and brake balance sector controls are not he center console. A customizable dashboard gives the driver necessary information while on-board telemetry logs all vehicle data.

The car's pedals are also adjustable.

Pricing is in the "if you have to ask you can't afford it" category.

David Beckham is turning his passion for supercars into a side gig. The former Manchester United midfielder has become the new face of Maserati.

Beckham has a long history as a car nut. He's owned Rolls-Royces, Bentleys, McLarens, Cadillacs, Audis, Aston Martins, Jaguars, BMWs, Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Hummers, and Jeeps, just to name a few. A year ago an Aston Martin Volante owned by Golden Balls went under the hammer and a little later in the year he was named one of the top five celebrities people would prefer to have deliver their new car to their home.

Maserati has a number of new projects up its sleeve besides partnering with Beckham. The company recently launched the new Ghibli Hybrid, a vehicle that the Modena-based manufacturer sees as a jumping off point for the new version of the brand - one where electrification and performance take center stage. Call it the Italian version of Akio Toyoda's famous "no boring cars" statement.

"The Brand is moving forward, inaugurated a new Era. Maserati is driven to challenge the status quo being innovative by nature, powered by passion, and unique by design. The partnership with David is the embodiment of all these values,: said Paolo Tubito, Maserati Chief Marketing Officer.

For 2021, Maserati also added a trio of Trofeos to its lineup. The The Maserati Levante Trofeo,. Ghibli Trofeo, and Quattroporte Trofeo are the most extreme versions of the vehicles available new from the manufacturer.

Beckham makes his debut in a new movie featuring the Levante Trofeo, performing the "audacious" act of driving a Maserati. The setting is Miami, the home city of Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami, an MLS soccer club that Becks co-owns with Marcelo Claure, Jorge Mas, Masayoshi Son, and José R. Mas.

The 2022 Lexus ES will debut next week.

The meat and potatoes of the Lexus sedan lineup, the ES, is due for a refresh, and it will get one. The 2022 Lexus ES will be shown publicly for the first time this Sunday as part of the festivities of the Shanghai auto show.

While the photo doesn't tell a lot, there's some things you can bet on in the 2022 ES. For starters, look for all the improvements that the auto has gotten over the last two years to carry over into the new model. That includes the addition of all-wheel drive to the lineup and standard blind spot monitor and rear cross traffic alert.

The ES Black Line may not make its way to the 2022 version of the midsize sedan. Generally, blacked out editions are available only at the tail end of a model run ahead of a refresh or generational redesign. However, the blacked out elements could become available as part of a package.

The headlight photo that Lexus has offered as a teaser shows a housing that is not dissimilar to the one that the Lexus IS wears. However, the daytime running light is on the bottom here, instead off the top. Like the IS, there are strong hood lines.

At the back, the preview video shows a vehicle that is very similar to the current model. It's taillights, a strong chrome line that runs the width of the year, and rear lip spoiler all look mostly same as before.

As for what to expect underneath the body of the car, there's not a lot of indication from the teasers, which leads one to believe that's where the biggest changes are coming. There's a good chance that we'll finally say goodbye to the Lexus touch pad in favor of a touch screen display that's within a comfortable distance.

It's also likely that Lexus will fine tune the dynamics of the ES in a similar fashion to how the Lexus IS got more performance-focused driving dynamics in its latest redo.

Stay tuned for more specifics are the curtain is pulled back on April 19 in China (April 18 in the U.S.).
