The 2021 Ford F-150 is available with a hybrid powertrain.

The 2021 Ford F-150 will have a maximum tow rating of 14,000 pounds and maximum payload of 3,325 making it stronger than any other light-duty full-size pickup truck. For the 2021 model year, the F-Series introduces its first hybrid powertrain, the 3.5-liter PowerBoost, which gets the most horsepower and torque of any power plant on the roster.

“F-150 is the flagship of Ford’s dedication to building the best trucks and represents our commitment to not just meeting customer needs but exceeding them,” said Todd Eckert, Ford truck group marketing manager. “With capability and functionality foundational to F-Series, the all-new F-150 not only tows more and hauls more than any other light-duty full-size pickup, it is built to surpass customer expectations with smart innovations that will make them even more productive every day.”

The PowerBoost engine gives the F-150 2,120 pounds of maximum payload capacity and 12,700 pounds of maximum conventional towing capacity. Those numbers are the most for any hybrid pickup. Hybrids present their own unique set of challenges when it comes to towing because of battery and motor cooling concerns.

The impressive numbers don’t stop there. The PowerBoost engine makes 430 horsepower and 570 pound-feet of torque. Models with the PowerBoost engine also come with the Pro Power Onboard generator that delivers 2.4 kilowatts of standard power and an available 7.2 kilowatts – enough to power 28 refrigerators.

Currently, no other mainstream automakers offers a hybrid or all-electric truck from the factory. Rivian is working on the R1T, Ford is developing an all-electric F-150, and the battery-powered GMC Hummer EV will debut later this year.

Ford is expected to debut the revised F-150 Raptor soon. It’s likely to unseat the F-150 PowerBoost as the most powerful F-150 model in order to keep up with the competition being offered by the new Ram TRX.
