The second installment of the 2020 Ram 1500 Built to Serve Edition trucks has entered into production at FCA's Sterling Heights (Michigan) Assembly Plant.

Each run of the Built to Serve Edition trucks includes unique badging, decals, and paint jobs meant to evoke the spirit of the five U.S. military service branches.

The second installment of the special edition trucks begin rolling out this month, coinciding with Flag Day, Sunday, June 14. A new "Built to Serve Edition" model, representing another one of America's land, air or sea-based military branches, will launch approximately every three months.

The Ram Built to Serve Edition trucks are built on the Ram 1500 Big Horn trim level. They come in the buyer's choice of 10 paint jobs: Gator, Diamond Black, Ceramic Gray, Patroit Blue, Anvil, Billet Silver, Tank, Flame Red, Spitfire, and Bright White.

Each model features a U.S. flag and Bulit to Serve decal on each of the rear quarter panels, 20-inch aluminum wheels with unique Technical Gray finish, body-colored wheel flares, all-black grille and surround, black bumpers, black-bezel premium lighting, black badges, black wheel-to-wheel side steps, and dual four-inch black exhaust tips.

The cabin of the truck is accented with unique corresponding color stitching in Light Frost, Light Ambassador Blue, Light Diesel Gray, Core Green, or orange.

There are Built to Serve Velcro panels on each front seat and on the rear shoulder panel where owners can apply their own patches to personalize their truck. Front seat-back panels are covered with PALS/MOLLE webbing that can be used to attach additional equipment or pouches.

Each model also comes loaded with Ram's 4x4 Off-Road Group content, including:

  • All-terrain tires
  • Electronic-locking rear axle
  • Hill-descent control
  • Front suspension skid plate
  • Steering gear skid plate
  • Fuel tank skid plate
  • Transfer case skid plate
  • Tow hooks
  • Heavy-duty off-road-calibrated front and rear shock absorbers

By appealing to past and present military members with the marketing of this truck, Ram is tapping into a significant population. The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs calculates that approximately seven percent of the U.S. population is an active or reserve member, or veteran of the armed services.

Ram is selling the special edition as a $2,795 option.

The commercial van is going all-electric in 2023

Stellantis

Many automakers have publicly committed to making the shift to fully electrified vehicle lineups with the decade, but until recently, Stellantis was an outlier. The global auto giant, whose brands include Jeep, Ram, Dodge, Chrysler, Alfa Romeo, and more, will follow suit, but has been less aggressive with its stated goals. However, the automaker is already making good on its promises, and one of the first vehicles to come will be an electrified version of the Ram ProMaster van in 2023.

The automaker will follow its ProMaster commercial van with an electric version of the Ram 1500 pickup truck in 2024. When the truck eventually lands, it will face off against the Ford F-150 Lightning, Chevrolet Silverado EV, and GMC Hummer EV – a massively crowded field of vehicles, considering none are on sale today.

We don't have any specs on the new van yet, but its main competition will come from the Ford E-Transit electric van, which just began testing in fleets this week. Ford sent 10 pre-production vans to municipal and other fleets across the UK and a couple of other European countries. The E-Transit is estimated to deliver a range of about 126 miles and to offer a payload capacity of up to 4,290 pounds.

New special edition truck

Ram Trucks adds new anniversary edition for 2022

The 2022 Ram 1500 Limited 10th Anniversary Edition gets an exclusive blue paint color.

Ram Trucks

Pickup trucks have long been more than the rugged workhorse vehicles they once were. People buy and use trucks as their everyday vehicles, and automakers have responded by making more spacious, comfortable, and efficient pickups. Nowhere is that more apparent than with Ram, whose 1500 light duty pickup truck carried away award after award when its new generation hit the streets in 2019. In its top trims, the Ram 1500 shames many luxury cars on interior quality, comfort, and technology, but the brand isn't done adding "stuff."

If you needed any confirmation that big, luxurious pickup trucks are here to stay, here it is. Today, Ram Trucks announced the Ram 1500 Limited 10th Anniversary Edition. Beyond having a tongue-twister for a name, the truck is packed to the gills with highbrow materials and features.

To set it apart on the outside, the truck will get an exclusive Blue Shade paint color, along with a multi-function tailgate and adjustable cargo tie-down hooks. Inside, Ram says that the 1500's already impressive interior will be pushed further into premium territory with quilted leather upholstery and door inserts, a suede headliner, and special 10th anniversary badges. The truck's digital gauge cluster and infotainment screen will display unique graphics upon vehicle startup. Capping off the plush cabin, the Anniversary Edition truck will be offered with a new Indigo and Sea Salt Grey interior color and will get a 19-speaker premium audio system.

The 2022 Ram 1500 Limited 10th Anniversary Special Edition is sold only in a crew cab body style. Ram offers the truck with either the 5.7-liter V8 with eTorque or with its 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine. The new special edition expands the already mammoth Ram 1500 lineup. At the bottom end of the spectrum is the Ram 1500 Tradesman, a stripped-down work truck with only the essentials. From there, there is the Big Horn, the Laramie, the Rebel, the Limited Longhorn, and the Limited. All of that is on top of the Hellcat-powered Ram 1500 TRX and the Ram 1500 Classic, which itself is offered in three trim levels.
