Audi's flagship A8 sedan is getting a feisty stablemate. The 2020 Audi S8 will debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show this week. This is the first time the U.S. market will get the S8.

Like other S variants in the Audi lineup, the S8 features similar styling to the A8, save unique badging and more aggressive exterior accents. Additionally, there are available 21-inch five double-spoke wheels, Audi Laser Lights, and OLED animated taillights.

The S8 has unique exterior features that help differentiate it from the A8.

The real story is under its body. Each S8 comes standard with all-wheel drive, a sport differential, and predictive active suspension.

Below the bonnet sits a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter eight-cylinder engine that produces 563 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. It has an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph and can get from zero to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds. That's quick impressive quickness for a luxury large car.

Like the A8, the S8 is fitted with a host of premium features including dual-pane acoustic glass that keeps road and engine noise at bay. Its front sport seats feature Valcona leather with diamond stitching while an air quality system provides ionization and scents. Inlay on the upper dash is made of Carbon Vector that was designed to feature a 3D depth effect. It's underlined by a brushed matt aluminum lower inlay.

The 2020 Audi S8 starts at $129,500. Each model carries an additional $995 destination charge.

Grab this 2000 BMW M5 before someone else does

Classic good looks and a rowdy V8 are the story here.

We could spend all day bemoaning the rise of car auction sites and their impact on prices, but that won't do any good. The damage has been done. Of course, there are exceptions to the sky-high pricing we typically see on auction sites, and some cars are worth the money. This 2000 BMW M5 is one of them, and its current auction bid of just $15,250 makes us think it could go for a decent price.

The E39 M5 is one of the most legendary and sought-aftersports sedans of all time. Its 4.9-liter V8 produced 394 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque when it was new, which isn't all that crazy by today's standards, but an almost 400-horsepower family car was a big deal at the time. That magical engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive – an enthusiast's dream recipe.

Inside, this car's tan leather upholstery looks great, and matches well with its black exterior. The seller has kept mods to a minimum, with just a set of aftermarket headlights on the list of changes. The car's original navigation system and head unit appear to be in place and the entire package is so well preserved it's amazing that the car hasn't drawn more interest so far.

Where this M5 will end up is anybody's guess. These cars are particularly difficult to find in any condition that could be called drivable, so this car's relatively low $15,000 current bid amount is surprising. Commentors on this auction are just as surprised as we are, and are asking where the love has gone for this M5. Of course, someone could swoop in at the last moment and start a bidding war, and with a full day left on the clock there's plenty of time for some action.

All-new 2022 Audi A3 and S3 coming soon

The 2022 A3 gets sharper styling.

Audi

The Audi A3 and S3 might be small, but both cars bring benchmark performance and luxury to the compact side of the premium market. The cars have been totally overhauled for the 2022 model year, and pick up new powertrain tech, updated interiors, and sharper styling.

Audi says that the A3 is wider and more aggressively styled than its predecessor, and notes that it will carry a new, wider grille and headlight design. The S3 is now longer and wider than before, and will sport a larger, more aggressive exhaust system.

The 2022 A3 is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 201 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. It's paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The powertrain also gets a 48-volt mild-hybrid boost for the first time in 2021, which will provide better take-off acceleration and can allow the car to coast with the engine off.

The S3 derives 306 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque from its turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, which is a bump of 18 horsepower and 15 pound-feet of torque over its predecessor. Audi says that the new powertrain configuration allows the 2022 S3 to sprint from 0-60 mph in only 4.5 seconds. The S3 also benefits from a .6-inch drop in ride height and new available S sport suspension with damper control that can be adjusted with drive mode selections from the cockpit.

The S3 gets new power-adjustable S sport seats, and can be upgraded inside with diamond-stitched Nappa leather upholstery.

A 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen is standard for both cars, along with a 10.25-inch digital gauge display. Audi's virtual cockpit system, which can project maps and other information into the gauge cluster, is available with a 12.3-inch gauge upgrade option.
